“Are you hurt?” He cuts you free of the rope crushing your wrists. “Come on, let’s get you out of here.” The rope scratches you as it falls, loosening the pressure.
“Who are you?” You ask.
The man gives a small bow. “Joseph Tempest, at your service.”
Joseph Tempest
Banker who desires adventure and to be a sea captain.
He was apprenticed to a banking syndicate as a child when he was young and trained there, not able to have as much fun as the rest of the children he could see laughing and playing from his desk.
He grew up and moved up in the ranks of the banking world and now is relatively accomplished. His office overlooks the water and he can see the sailing ships and submarines coming and going. The submarines excite him the most, he always has wanted to go on one. He is growing bored with his work, finding time to track down ancient treasures in his spare time. He has lost money before on his frivolous pursuits.
His parents love that he has a respectable job and look down on sailors, often insulting them and casting them in a negative light. As a result he has not shared his desires with them.
He is now courting a young woman, not in his own interests. He would love to have a woman, but he is shy around the opposite sex, not sure how rejection would feel. This is an arrangement by his mother who wants grand children and is tired of waiting for him to do something.
Internal Motivation
Powerful desire to be loved and admired by those around him.
External Motivation
Seeing the sailors coming into the harbor and watching them everyday makes his heart ache to be free of the monotony and boredom of counting coins and balancing ledgers. He wants to explore and be fulfilled.
“You want to know more, learn about my friends first.”
He slips a book into your hand.
